Procrastination
The not So Subtle Art of Putting Things Off and How to Stop!
Procrastination is a very common problem. We’ve all had times when we didn’t complete a task or something that we wanted to do. Sometimes we put off things that we don’t want to do and only at the deadline rush to complete it. Sometimes we don’t complete it at all. According to Joseph Ferrari, author of “Still Procrastinating: The No Regret Guide to Getting It Done,” around 20% of U.S. adults are chronic procrastinators.
Considering that 20% means 2 out of 10 people tend to put off or not complete tasks. The tasks can range from simple tasks such as organizing our office or garage to big tasks such as filing taxes or taking care of medical issues. For many, this tendency to put things off can impact their reputations, work and relationships.
Seth had a big problem and one he was putting off. He had begun having pain in his lower back after working in his yard. He attributed the pain to strained muscles. However the weeks went by and the pain became much more severe and it really didn’t matter if he was standing, sitting or lying down. He began to have tingling, pain and numbness in his legs. When his girlfriend suggested that he go to the doctor, he said, “What so that they can find something wrong?” What he didn’t tell her was about his thoughts – “What if they find something that requires surgery? What if the surgery goes wrong in my back? Would that leave me paralyzed?”
